Applying Positive Parenting on Gifted Families: Addressing the Needs of Gifted Students at Different Developmental Stages

Abstract:

Gifted children with asynchronous development sometimes display behaviours that seem unmanageable and may not respond to traditional forms of behavioural intervention. In this seminar, ideas of creating a positive learning environment, maintaining positive parent-child relationships and managing the stresses of parenting will be discussed. The presenter will introduce the Positive Parenting approach to help parents of gifted children in overcoming some common parenting issues in different developmental stages of the gifted.



Biography:
Mr Victor CHING is a registered psychologist in Hong Kong and Australia. As an educational psychologist of The Hong Kong Academy for Gifted Education, he delivers seminars and workshops, conducts psychological assessments and provides consultation and counselling services for students, parents and teachers. Mr CHING is also experienced in providing behavioural modification programmes for students. During his training in Australia, he worked for the Developmental Disabilities Clinic of Monash Medical Centre and more than 10 primary and secondary schools, providing psychoeducational services for children and adolescents with special learning needs and behavioural issues.
